Instructions Following Denture or Partial Delivery

  • Dentures should not be worn while you sleep so that the gums have a chance to rest. Just as you would never wear your shoes 24 hours a day to give your feet a break, you should always remove your dentures at night. Because the mouth is warm, moist and can contain bacteria, a fungal infection can develop if  dentures are left in the mouth all the time.

  • You should clean your dentures  two times a day with toothpaste on a toothbrush. At the same time, the mouth should be brushed and rinsed as well.

  • We even recommend washing your palate (upper arch) with a wet washcloth on your thumb in the shower to help toughen the gums and remove plaque and bacteria.

  • Once a week, the denture should be scrubbed with an anti-bacterial soap to help prevent a foul taste that can develop from bacteria penetrating the acrylic surface.

  • When the denture is not in the mouth, it should always be kept saturated in a cup of water or denture bath. Effervescent tablets can be used to help loosen stains. Always brush the denture well after using these cleaning tablets.

  • Annual check-ups are essential for denture patients to check the fit and the bite of the prosthesis, but also to perform an oral cancer screening.
